Villard Hill / Thorwood

Villard Avenue sits on Villard Hill. Henry Villard bought Thorwood in 1879. His widow stayed until 1928. In 1930–31 the hill was sold to Joseph Medill Patterson of the Daily News. The 1957 Dobbs register said about 40 houses stood on the old estate by 1956.

Thorwood and the neighboring Dunedin house were pulled down after the sale. The street name is the leftover. The holding sat on the Hastings / Dobbs line, next to the Minturn ground that became Riverview Manor.
