Popham and Garth holdings
The Popham family once owned the north side of Popham Road. David J. Garth held about 180 acres beside the Bronx River; his house burned in 1925 and the land was cut two years later. Garth Road and the Buckingham apartments sit on that tract.
Popham Park (Oakwood Place) was filed in 1907 by the estate executors. Locust Lane and Popham Lane are leftover private ways on the old Popham ground called The Locusts. The village center — East Parkway, Freightway, Depot Place — filled in after the Bronx River Parkway opened in 1925.
