Larchmont Manor
This lot sits on Larchmont Manor. Thompson J.S. Flint formed the Larchmont Manor Company in 1872 and filed about 300 house lots on the old Munro / Collins country place. Flint turned the Munro house into an inn for buyers and reserved the waterfront as Manor Park.
Collins, a steamship owner, had bought the place at auction in 1845. After the Civil War he was bankrupt and the estate went to auction again. Flint marketed a summer resort. The railroad made year-round commuting possible. The populated tract incorporated as the Village of Larchmont in 1891. Larchmont Yacht Club (1880) and Manor Park still mark the original waterfront reservation.
