Greenhaven / Brevoort farm
This lot sits on the old Brevoort farm. Henry Brevoort bought the land in 1851. In the 1920s Vivian Green — the same operator who put 'green' on Scarsdale's Green Farms streets — bought most of it from the heirs and filed Greenhaven as a garden suburb. Brevoort Lane still carries the farm name.
West Greenhaven (Old Greenhaven) came first: Shore Road, Lake Road, and parts of Brevoort Lane and Greenhaven Road. East Greenhaven added the rest of Greenhaven Road, Brevoort Lane, Rye Road, Captain's Lane, Norman Drive, Anchor Drive, and Sound Road. The Rye Historical Society lists the Brevoort farm among the large places cut after 1900.
