Fox Meadow / Butler estate
This house sits on the Butler estate, later sold as Fox Meadow. Charles Butler started buying in 1853 and held more than 400 acres. In March 1925 Emily Butler sold 375 acres to Fox Meadow Estates. Street names came from Dixon Ryan Fox, then village historian.
Until 1925 the tract was woods, brooks, grain fields, and pasture. A few houses stood on Fenimore Road. Development started that May under William Hart of Chesterfield Road. The village had already bought 75 acres from Emily Butler in 1919 for Butler Field. She also gave land for the Bronx River Parkway woods. Butler Road was the driveway to the house that stood where 54 Butler Road is now. The lots on the map date from the 1925 sale.
