# Heathcote tract

James G. Cannon and Scarsdale Estates laid out Heathcote when the section was still open country. Warren Thayer was the landscape architect. The first cut was 28 lots of two to sixteen acres. Each deed needed a three-fourths vote of the Heathcote Association before a lot could be split again.

The association formed in 1904. In 1926 it voted down four requests to waive the no-split rule, including one on Morris Lane and two on Sherbrooke Road. Duck Pond Road was Edgewater Road on Cannon's 1908 map; neighbors got the old name back in 1939. The pond at Heathcote and Sherbrooke is still owned by the neighborhood association. Five Corners grew around the New York, Westchester and Boston station that later died. Heathcote Road itself was named in 1909 for the 18th-century manor holder — the lots, not the manor, are what this page is about.
